The Daily Process

Reflect on Your Day

Après is a great time to talk about your highs and lows from the day, and discuss what you did right and what you could do better.
Vince Hempsall

You’re back at the car, truck, trailhead, or hut after a fun and safe day in the mountains. Now is a good time to reflect with your group on the drive home, over dinner, or over drinks. Talk about your day and look at the positives and negatives.

Ask yourselves, “When did we make good decisions?” and “When did we get lucky?” Discuss times where you think the group took too big a risk, as well as times where you think you made the right decision. Talk about ways you can do better next time.

Finally, share your observations through the Mountain Information Network. You don’t need to be an expert to do so. Even a photo and conditions report is valuable for your colleagues, and the forecasters who are preparing the public avalanche bulletins.
